Brief History

1921 |
Peppard War Memorial Hall was built in memory of those men of the parish who gave their lives in the First World war.
Public subscriptions of about £2,000 were made and the building work was carried out by the local builder, Mr Arthur Butler.

1929 |
Peppard Bowls Club formed.

| 1934 |
An additional £1,000 was raised in the Parish, which resulted in the building of a stage and dressing rooms.

12 May 1937 |
A service was held in the hall on the day of King George VI's coronation. This was followed by the broadcast of the Coronation Service from Westminster Abbey.

Second World War
|
The Hall was used to run a weekly cinema show, which continued until 1958. |
|
1945 |
VE Day celebrations coincided with the 150th anniversary of the Congregational Church in Blounts Court Road. A parade in 18th century costumes was followed by a concert in the Hall.

22 May 1953
|
A dance was held in the Hall to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

|
Tennis was played on the site for many years until the club was deemed inactive in 1975.

1959-1965
|
An annual New Years Dance was held in the Hall. |
|
November 1962 |
The Hall received charity status after much good work by the Treasurer, Mr Bowyer.

1965 |
Agreement reached with SEB on the renting of land for an electricity sub-station for the princely sum of £12 per year.

January 1970 |
Sonning Common & Peppard Table Tennis Club started using the Hall.

March 1970 |
The original playgroup organised by June Chandler ran five mornings per week.

1972 |
Oil-fired central heating and hot water system replaced the old electricity system.

March 1975
|
Tennis Club considered inactive. |
|
1976 |
Peppard Bowls Club was given permission to extend its green to include the disused tennis courts.

|
1977 |
Performing Rights Licence issued for the first time.
|
|
1979 |
Peppard Bowls Club Golden Jubilee Year, which co-incided with the opening of the extended bowls green.
|
|
1986 |
Lease for the electricity sub-station renewed for 21 years at £12 per year.
|
|
1997 |
Chiltern Players started using the Hall regularly.
|
|
2007 |
Lease for the electricity sub-station renegotiated for £90 per year.

|
June 2008
|
Summer Fete held to riase money for refurbishment - £1,200 raised.
